The first, and still the most innovative, Azeri mobile network

We started as one of the first major investors in the modern Azerbaijan. Today, we continue that investment to develop superior communication services for our customers, throughout the country.

• Bakcell was established in March 1994 as a Joint Venture between GTIB and the Ministry of Communication of the Azerbaijan Republic.
• We were the first company to provide cellular communication services in Azerbaijan.
• Having started as an Analogue (ETACS) System Operator, we changed in December 1998, to implement state-of-the-art GSM telecommunication technology. This brought Azerbaijan communications up to the most competitive international standards.
• In December 2003, the company's privatisation process was successfully completed and since January 2004, Bakcell has operated as a 100% privately owned company.
• Bakcell continues to invest in the economy of Azerbaijan and is proud to be one of the country’s most successful business organisations.

Extensive network coverage

We continuously invest in leading technologies to provide our customers with the very best network experience possible. With significant development in 2008 and 2009, we now cover and 82% of the land area of the country, inhabited by 90% of the population.  The whole network has been upgraded to EDGE technology to provide you with high speed Internet.

Network investment will continue to deliver increasing coverage, even better customer support and the very latest new mobile data services.

Worldwide partner networks

Bakcell customers can use our Roaming Service in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia and Africa. Bakcell now has roaming agreements with 242 operators in 149 countries globally.

Also, there might be some interruptions in communication due to some technical (e.g. features of a certain mobile phone), geographical (e.g. remote regions), natural (e.g. drastic changes in weather), engineering-construction installations (e.g. located in underground objects, basements, beyond thick concrete walls) factors and other reasons.
