Bakcell, one of the leading mobile operators in Azerbaijan, continues to invest in the country’s infrastructure. Since the beginning of this year Bakcell has embarked on an ambitious project to expand and modernize its network.
As part of this project Bakcell has considerably expanded its network in Azerbaijan’s Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. In 2009 Bakcell constructed and launched 22 new base stations across Nakhichevan bringing the total number of its base stations in the autonomous republic to 42. As a result of this network expansion, all major highways and arterial roads in Nakhichevan are now covered by Bakcell’s network. Now Bakcell covers Nakhichevan’s various areas, such as Sederek, Shahbuz, Julfa, Badamli, Sirab, Babek, Ordubad and other places.
EDGE service for high-speed internet is also now available in all areas of Nakhichevan covered by Bakcell.
The company is planning to continue expanding its network and its capacity well into 2010.
Bakcell is Azerbaijan’s first ever mobile operator. It covers more than 80% of Azerbaijan’s territory. The number of active Bakcell subscribers is nearing 2 million.
